OLIS HL7® FHIR® Patient Access Implementation Guide v2.0.1
Business Context
The Ontario Laboratories Information System (OLIS) gives authorized health care providers access to lab test orders and results from hospitals, community labs and public health labs. As patients move between hospitals, family physicians, home care and long-term care settings, OLIS makes viewing patients’ current and past test results easier and enables treatment decisions to be made at the point-of-care.
Authorized users across the province can access lab results from OLIS through their clinical viewer (ClinicalConnect™ or ConnectingOntario ClinicalViewer), or their EMR system.
Scope
The OLIS HL7® FHIR® Patient Access Implementation Guide is based on HL7® Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR®) standard, Release 4 (R4). This guide is designed for use by consumer applications and supports view -only access to laboratory data. The guide ensures that all information technology systems retrieving laboratory data from OLIS can exchange and interpret information using FHIR resources and standardized clinical terminologies.
The guide is a web-based specification hosted on the Canadian FHIR Registry powered by SIMPLIFIER.NET*. The reader will be re-directed to the implementation guide’s home page on Canadian FHIR Registry website after registering and clicking the “Agree and Download” button.
Status
This implementation guide has gone through a formal governance committee review and approval process resulting in a final status.
FHIR is an evolving trial-for-use standard, so additional changes by HL7 are expected. We will continue to monitor developments and assess whether there are impacts and publish updates as they emerge.
