Online access to COVID-19 lab test results for Health Care Providers

If you are an authorized Ontario health care provider with access to one of the provincial viewers (ClinicalConnect™, ConnectingOntario ClinicalViewer and eHealth Portal) or an electronic medical record system (with OLIS to EMR) or Hospital Information System (with OLIS integration), you can access novel coronavirus (COVID-19) lab test results stored in Ontario Laboratories Information System (OLIS) in near real-time.

Sharing lab results electronically helps health care providers at The Ottawa Hospital

First Clinical Use Of The Ontario Laboratories Information System

Patients at The Ottawa Hospital are now benefiting from more coordinated health care. The Ontario laboratories information system (OLIS) connects hospitals, community laboratories, public health laboratories and practitioners to facilitate the secure electronic exchange of laboratory test results. The ability to electronically share this information helps health care providers at The Ottawa Hospital make faster and more informed patient care decisions.

There are many benefits associated with this coordinated approach including: a significant reduction in the duplication of laboratory tests; elimination of unnecessary travel between sites for multiple testing; and improved processes which eliminate frustrations associated with paper records and related errors.

At The Ottawa Hospital, the first 10 authorized clinicians were introduced to OLIS in January 2011. Since then, 679 clinicians have been added. Now, clinicians at The Ottawa Hospital can log into their existing clinical viewer once and see a significant addition on the screen – OLIS data.
