Vendor Engagement for Drug Information System and ePrescribing
In March 2009, we outlined our strategy to move forward with a technology solution to improve medication management in Ontario. This solution would include the implementation of a Drug Information System (DIS) with ePrescribing functionality and would serve as an important component of electronic health records. We are in the process of completing our medication management strategy and would like to consult with suppliers (or companies) who have experience in this area.
Our Medication Management Team is issuing an open invitation to meet with technical and other representatives in order to obtain more information about current technology solutions for Drug Information Systems and ePrescribing as well as recent implementations. Each meeting will be considered non-binding on all participants. Vendor representatives will be invited to explain, in the form of an open presentation their solution and implementation experience.
In order to ensure fairness, openness and transparency, eHealth Ontario will entertain requests for meetings from vendors who have:
- Commercial off the shelf solutions (COTS) for DIS including ePrescribing functionality and
- Demonstrated experience in leading the implementation of a Drug Information System including ePrescribing functionality in any other jurisdiction.
During the vendor presentation, we would be interested in responses to the following questions:
- What was the scope of your implementation of DIS/ePrescribing projects in other jurisdictions?
- What have been the main challenges in your implementation? How have you overcome these barriers?
- Are there any lessons learned that can be shared to help ensure a successful project in Ontario? What advice can you give us?
- How can technology assist with medication management in the most efficient and cost effective way? Where is the technology going in the long run?
This meeting is for information gathering purposes only and is not part of a formal legally binding bidding process. Information received will not result in any subsequent negotiations, direct contract award, invitational tendering process or non-competitive procurement process and does not constitute a commitment by the eHealth Ontario agency to procure any goods or services.
If you are interested in meeting with eHealth Ontario on this topic, please contact Abid Malik, Director, Vendor Relations, at abid.malik@ehealthontario.on.ca
Ideally the meeting will take place on either July 19th, 20th, or 21st and will be a maximum of two hours in duration, however we will entertain requests for a meeting until July 30, 2010.
We look forward to hearing from interested vendors with the capability of responding to eHealth Ontario requirements. A respondent form will be provided for signature to vendors with whom a meeting is arranged.

Director, Vendor Relations
