Provincial Client Registry – HL7 FHIR Implementation Guide (Version 2)
The Provincial Client Registry (PCR) HL7 Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) Implementation Guide Version 2 specifies how to use the HL7 FHIR standard to query patient data from the Ontario Health Provincial Client Registry (PCR). FHIR is the next generation standards framework for exchanging health care information electronically. It leverages the latest web technology and is available for mobile devices, cloud communications, EHR-based data sharing, and server communications in large institutional health care organizations.
This interface supports queries to retrieve patient records or associated patient identifiers using Ontario health card numbers, medical record numbers from point of service systems and other Ontario Health supported identifiers. It also supports patient matching using patient demographic information. It is developed based on FHIR Release 4 (R4).
The PCR HL7 FHIR Implementation Guide is a web-based specification hosted on the Canadian FHIR Registry powered by SIMPLIFIER.NET*. The reader will be re-directed to the implementation guide’s home page on Canadian FHIR Registry website after registering and clicking the “Agree and Download” button.
Status
FHIR is an evolving trial-for-use standard that has progressed from Draft Standard for Trial Use Release 2 (DSTU2) to Release 4 (R4). Additional changes by HL7 International Inc are anticipated until FHIR reaches normative status. This implementation guide will be updated as new business requirements emerge and/or when there are significant changes to the standard.
