Health care providers across the province now have quick and seamless access to their patients’ diagnostic images and reports, thanks to a new initiative from eHealth Ontario.

A major upgrade to the ConnectingOntario ClinicalViewer, which supports clinicians in Northern and Eastern Ontario as well as the Greater Toronto Area, was successfully completed on August 13th.

This new version, known as Release 10, enables the viewing of diagnostic reports and images captured across Ontario through the provincial Diagnostic Imaging (DI) Common Service. Access to images and reports helps to eliminate the need for patients to carry around physical CD’s with their DI information on them to specialist’s offices. It also eliminates the need to mail or fax test results, and the costly duplication of scans when a patient moves from one hospital to another. Most importantly for patients, this network allows specialists at one facility to access reports acquired at other hospitals, allowing for more informed, timely medical decisions.

Today, more than 70,000 health care providers are able to access DI reports and images, providing a more complete picture of their patient’s health, regardless of their location.
