Provincial Clinical Document Architecture Header Standard

The standard has been developed following the HL7 clinical document architecture R2 methodology. Clinical document architecture is a standard for exchanging clinical documents between various health information technology systems and platforms. It is comprised of a header, which is consistent across all clinical documents, digital imaging common services and a body containing human readable content. The provincial CDA header standard allows for all points of connection to have a standardized means of querying for documents, regardless of the repository they are contained in.

Scope

The CDA header sets the context for the content of the document. It is comprised of three different kinds of elements:

• Document attributes (e.g. identity, template ID, date and time)
• Participation and roles (e.g. record target, author, data enterer)
• Related acts and related documents (e.g. in fulfillment of, documentation of, component of)
